Maarit and I started this project back in 2018. We were specifically interested in exploring the intimate relationship between a person and their life-size doll companion. As writers, we aimed to explore what happens when only one person on stage can contribute to the dialogue. How can we make the text naturalistic, how can we show, not tell? As theater makers, we were curious how the doll can serve as a device to transport the audience into alternate surreal, silly, and absurd realms. Both Maarit and I have been deeply influenced by physical theater and clowning and are curious as to how it can weave into a more naturalistic, dramatic style to reveal the comedy of the deeply tragic and visa versa. We feel the effects of the pandemic have made this piece even more relevant and this motivated us to pursue the idea further and dive deeper into the world of this piece. We look forward to having you there! xoxo Maarit & Kaitlin
